Basically when two softwares
are compatible it means they are able to be used together. The issue of
compatibility also exist between Softwares and Add-ons/extensions. These
add-ons are components of some softwares.
I will be using the Mozilla
Firefox software and Internet Download Manager (IDM) add-on as an example. You
can have IDM installed in your computer but it is not able to pick downloads,
this is because its Add-on/extension is not integrated into the browser. Due to
updates usually released by firefox browser on a more or less weekly basis, there
is need to cope with compatibility issues.
·
Updating Mozilla firefox means you also need
to update IDM add-on. This is not feasible most times especially when you are
using cracked version of IDM. But if
your IDM is genuine, then go ahead and update.
·
The implication of not updating your add-on
alongside with Firefox is that the add-on becomes obsolete and incompatible.
·
To avoid this problem, disable firefox
update. (This applies to other browsers not mentioned here like Google chrome,
Opera e.t.c.)
Example
of Firefox-IDM Compatibilty
Firefox v.27 is compatible
with IDM 6.18
Firefox v.28 is also
compatible with IDM 6.18
Firefox v.29 is compatible
with IDM 6.19
Firefox v.32 is compatible
with IDM 6.21
(more will be listed later
on… you can also add yours in the comment box).
How to check if an add-on or
extension is integrated into your browser e.g Mozilla Firefox.
1.
Go to firefox address bar and type “about:addons” (without the quotation
marks)
2.
Go to the “Extension” tab.
3.
Now you can enable or disable an add-on or
extension.
4.
If you did not see where to able or disable,
that means your add-on or extension is outdated.
If you are having difficulty
typing “about:addons”. Try navigating your way through the various Firefox
menus until you get there. Google is also there to help you!
For those using Google
Chrome browser.
1.
Go to “Settings”.
2.
Then go to “Extension”
3.
Then enable or disable any add-on of your
choice.
